However, other cat associations such as the Cat Fanciers Associates and the American Cat Fanciers Association, do not recognize munchkins as a breed of cat.

Some associations refuse to add the cat to their breed registry because of the controversy that the short legs are a malformation and should not be a desired trait.

They believe there are potential health and mobility issues with these cats. The short legs are caused by a recessive gene and many cat associations believe breeders have an obligation to breed the trait out of existence, not into existence.

so ugly they’re cute
Lykoi Cat Breed

The Lykoi was discovered among feral cats in the United States. A genetic mutation causes the cat to lack an undercoat, providing the appearance of a partially hairless cat.

While their hair looks coarse and unpleasant to touch, it’s actually very soft and silky. Just like all cats, they shed. Their coat will vary from somewhat full to nearly hairless due to the shedding.

Because they lack an undercoat, this breed should be an exclusively indoor cat to avoid sunburn or hypothermia.

Lykoi are playful and active cats. They enjoy company and will do well with other pets and people of all ages. While they may occasionally disappear to have some alone time, they’ll be back for interaction before you know it.

LaPerm Cat Breed
